This graphic succeeds as an illustration. The main purpose of this infographic is to convey the effects of plastic on the environment or most specifically the ocean. It successfully conveys the information in an easy to understand manner. The numbers are simplified; the zeros are dropped so that the numbers can be seen quickly. The infographic can be confusing as there is no proper way to read it like one would read a book, the reader must navigate however he or she so chooses. The use of color is very interesting as it seems to omit most colors except orange and blue and the various shades in between. This enables the reader to focus in on the orange highlights, while the blue portions, both text and graphics, are less noticeable. The graphic tends to remove most white space, this is good because the graphic attempts to fit in a lot of information that would be wasted by a lot of white space. Even the white space in the graphic is filled with something, seaweed and ocean type objects fill the white space. The graphic also has a map, a pie chart, and a bar graph within the graphic. But they are illustrated cleverly so they do not look like graphs but rather a bottle. The pictures in the graphic relate to the text. The text tells a story, and the pictures of the animals help paint a picture of that story in an entertaining way. The sea animals are sad looking as they have to deal with the impact of the plastics in their ocean.
