Creating a moral legacy for a leader is the most important responsibility that will determine how one will be remembered. It is unfortunate tat when it comes to Christian leadership, any small mistake made will erase all the good things that one has ever done. Reading from the experiences of many others who have suffered the shame of morality, it has become necessary for people to set up barriers and bounders that will ensure they do not fall into similar traps. The fact is that as Christians, we are always prone to temptations and exposure thereof. Christian believers and ministers are surrounded by such a big crowd of witnesses, some that are looking for exemplary leadership, while others are looking up to wait for when they will fall so that they expose them. Knowing how much such an exposure can bring shame and embarrassment, it is better for a leader to set up standards that will protect them from falling.
God is merciful and is always willing to forgive, yet the people we serve and look up to us are not the same as God. It may be difficult to rise up after a fall especially looking at the condemnations that rise against one, once such a mistake is made. Christian walk is characterized by prayer, study of the word and meditating on it. Knowing tat one is at risk of falling should always make them alert in their spirit. In as much as God wants to use a Christian leader in their day to day life, the enemy is also looking for ways to hinder such purposes from being accomplished. It is therefore important for any Christian to realize that he or she is exposed to two powers that fight him on a daily basis.
One of the biggest mistakes that has become a source of the downfall of many Christian believers is the feeling of righteousness. It is even worse to the men and women that are powerfully used by God to think that because of their position, they cannot fall for the traps of the evil one. It is important to know that each day is lived by grace. One needs to recognize that he or she is carrying a body that craves for its own desires. It only takes a simple opportunity to present itself and one will fall for such traps. One of the ways of avoiding such opportunities to present themselves is by being aware of their existence. A Christian leader needs to analyze and even write down some of the opportunities that are likely to present themselves and working towards blocking them. As one sets up standards, it is better for them to be mistaken and termed as week rather than present themselves as strong just to fall at the last moment.
Being a Christian leader is a sacrifice that one makes for themselves, for God and the people they are leading. Preaching the gospel may be easy, but maintaining a life of moral purity is quite a challenge. Falling becomes by thoughts, which may be considered harmless until when such thoughts start controlling the mind of a person. It is hence important to begin by arresting such thoughts in prayer and asking God to help you over come them. it reaches a point in life when a believer has to make ‘dangerous’ prayers that will protect him or her from opportunities that will cause them to sin. Observing a life of prayer, study of the word, meditating on it and being at the right place at the right time will protect a believer and ensure they leave a moral legacy.
