Counseling approaches that operate along racial, ethnic, and national lines promote a strong multicultural view and approach.

Counseling along racial, ethnic and national lines encourages a strong multi cultural view and approach. This enables the counselor understand different cultures from different backgrounds and know how to approach them. Culturally skilled counseling professionals have transformed to being more multi-cultural aware and sensitive to their own cultural principles enabling them respect and appreciate different cultures. Multi- cultural counselors understand how race, ethnic and national views affect personality formation thus applying appropriate counseling approaches (Gorski et al., 2015) This enables them know their limits with their clients, which in turn creating good rapport between them and their clients.
A classic mistake that a crisis interventionist might make would be to believe that all individuals should reach consensus within their own reference group, community, clan, or tribe before intervention occurs.
Crisis interventionist might make a mistake of thinking that individuals should reach a consensus with their own reference group. One’s own philosophies in life should not impose the idea of what should be the norm while dealing with patients from different back grounds and cultures. This common mistake makes it impossible in managing a crisis since the patient might have the feeling that their culture is being stereotyped (Ting-Toomey et al., 2012).

A focused multicultural view looks at multicultural counseling in relation to “visible and racial ethnic minorities.”

Multi cultural counseling is viewed in relation to visible and racial ethnic minorities while focused on. This perspective of looking at the issue ensures that no particular group is marginalized due to their size in number (Gorski et al., 2015). This takes into account that the counselor is able to interact and understand the patient without them feeling being marginalized. A closer look makes sure the counselor understands and appreciates the culture, no matter how they are in terms of their total numbers.

A high-context culture ties who one is to the group.

A high context culture refers to a group of individuals who have developed close ties over long period. Members of a high context culture are not tied to some explicit cultural behavior but they know what they are expected to do. This knowledge of one’s responsibilities of the culture defines who one is to the group. A good example of a high context culture is a family. Everybody in the family knows their duties thus defining who one is to the group. A good example, the daughter is not expected to take part in duties presumed to be of their father’s though she is not explicitly barred from taking part (Ting-Toomey et al., 2012).
While the ecology of a culture is important, it appears to play a small role in how a crisis is handled or resolved.
Cultural ecology refers to the study of biological and cultural adaptation to social and physical environments. Understanding how members of a culture have adapted to their current situation makes it a lot easier in making progress during crisis management (Burnard et al., 2014). This aspect appears to play a small role in multi- cultural crisis management situation but is equally important. Understanding the ecology of a culture makes it easier for the counselor to have a breakthrough with the patient and understand their culture better.
