My Career Pathway Essay Example

Abstract

This paper addresses two main issues: How my experiences in patient care have influenced my career and my decision to continue my education and how I intend to contribute to the nursing profession. My experiences in nursing care have helped improve my abilities and skills needed to work in the profession effectively. In terms of the contributions I intend to make in the nursing profession, taking part in research studies and policy formulations are my main areas of focus.

How Patient Care That I Have Provided Has Influenced My Career and My Decision to Continue My Education

Taking part in patient care delivery tasks is instrumental in providing experiences and skills needed to excel in the nursing profession. So far, I have taken part in many patient care delivery practices. As a result, I have gained experiences, skills, knowledge, qualifications, and appropriate attitude needed in the nursing profession. In terms of skills, care delivery experiences have benefited me in many ways. Some of the skills I have gained include the following: communication skills, analytical skills, skills in handling patients with various conditions under different situations, coordination skills, leadership skills, and many other skills relevant to the profession.
In addition to gaining various skills, my care delivery abilities have also improved tremendously following my participation in various tasks in patient care delivery. In this case, my capability in attending to a high number of patients has improved. I am now able to organise various tasks and undertake them effectively at the right time. I am also able to prioritise various tasks in patient care in order to ensure positive patient outcome. I have also learnt how to conduct all the tasks involved in all the steps of nursing care process effectively. In addition, since I have worked as a licenced practical nurse in a nursing home for two years, I am now a step further towards becoming a registered nurse.
My experiences in various care settings have influenced my interest in becoming a registered nurse. Consequently, I intend to acquire all the necessary qualifications needed to become a registered nurse. In this case, I intend to begin a professional nursing degree program next year. My attitude towards nursing has also become more positive due to my experiences in providing patient care. I now appreciate the profession more than before.

How I See Myself Contributing To the Nursing Profession

I intend to make positive contributions to the nursing profession in various ways. First, I will carry out all my duties related to patient care delivery with diligence and honesty in order to impact positively on patients and the profession. I also intend to take part in the formulation of various policies affecting the nursing profession. In addition, I will support and take part in various research studies aimed at improving various aspects of the profession. I will always be an advocate for patients and my fellow nursing professionals.
