NAACP Reveals Pollution By Coal-Fired Power Plants Essay Samples

Introduction

When it comes to the measure of pollution with regards to the coal powered plants, the NACCP have ranked up to 378 coal-fired power plants on the basis of Environmental Justice Performance. The report released by NACCP and its counterparts, is a document of the coal-fired power plants that have regarded profits rather than the preservation of human life and as a result, the low income communities (colored individuals) are the ones suffering most even though they cannot afford it. The NACCP president mentions that pollution of the environment through coal is literally destroying the environment with the poor alongside. In addition, the NACCP stresses the urgency of the pollution issues pointing out that community members including children are getting sicker with their life expectancies greatly reduced by the pollution factor. In other words, coal pollution needs to be ceased.
With regards to the pollution of the environment, Coal Blooded, as they refer to the report, has displayed out the frameworks that the individuals in the community up to organizations and lawmakers can implement in order to shift from relying so much on coal as a source of energy and replace it with other environmental friendly sources of energy. The two power plants that were recently shut down in Chicago were used as examples in the Coal Blooded report trying to show the community their undying effort to preserve the human life. The executive director of the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization () spoke up and appreciated the Coal Blooded report for the fact that it is a way in which the world can have a chance to know and perceive just how much damage the coal-fired power plants are doing to our world.

Strong response

Indeed, I agree profusely with the thought that NACCP has in mind for our world. The NACCP wishes to end the issue of environmental pollution through elimination of the use of coal as a source of energy. This is relevant because studying the emissions from coal that is being heated in high heat will result in either carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide, the former being a serious disease causing suffocation and the latter harshly destroys the environment. The carbon dioxide, the most common emission, forms a heavy blanket upon the heavens and as a result traps radiation waves from the sun which in turn heats up the earth to a very high degree (Vesiling and DiStefano, 2006). This is just bit a tip of the ice berg because given that this continues for many years and the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is raised substantially, then we will suffer the consequences of increased cancer from radiation and many other conditions.
I would rather prefer to end the pollution now rather than later in order to save us early from the future pains that would result from the pollution. Just as the Executive Director of the Indigenous Environmental Network said, “Clean coal is an oxymoron,” implying that it is foolish to think that pollution from coal can be controlled. The only way therefore for the pollution to be curbed is either through shifting to greener sources of energy like solar power or shutting these power plants that are destroying human lives like a time bomb. In addition, this pollution has been linked to the rapid increase of Asthma attacks, diseases of the respiratory system like the inflammation of the lungs and birth defects. In a nutshell, the pollution has to be ceased before it is too late.
