The blacks found it odd that in as much as they were being taught these things in school; the normal practice back home was totally different. The concept of practical teaching is reflected here. Lawson influenced other students by acting as a movement-trouble shooter. The students won over people by marching in the streets. A specific example is where they marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge (Bloody Sunday).
The core leadership skill reflected here is patience. A specific example is where John Lewis organized and planned for protests in the South. John Lewis also spent a whole decade registering voters in the south before running for the US Congress.
Lawson’s continued fight against segregation made other people join in the fight. The momentum of the struggle made the blacks stand for the rights and freedom. The continued struggle helped in eliminating segregation.
The fact that people were willing to suffer to whatever extent made the efforts of those people, who were against the struggle, fruitless. The protestors were attacked, for example, in Alabama by state troopers. The protesters still continued with the struggle.
Specific example of sit-in strategy was in 1960 where Diane took part in lunch counter sit-ins. Another example is where Diane confronted Mayor Ben West in the public. The larger public was motivated to fight for their rights.

Planning is demonstrated in the video where the movement planned every move before setting out for action. Ability to delegate is demonstrated in the video where the leaders were able to organize every event well. Confidence and commitment are shown by Lawson; he was even imprisoned but still continued the struggle.
Leadership needs dramatization to ensure it is appealing. Lewis used sit-in strategies to ensure that he won many people over. Leadership needs patience as things do not happen spontaneously. Each move they took was planned by Lawson. Leadership is about training; Lawson conducted workshops that helped trained people on how to fight segregation.
