If an organization decides not to use job descriptions, then it demonstrates that the institution has no obvious plan on what it really needs from present and prospect employees. The employees will not be known of their expectations and their evaluation criterion. In the absence of job description decision, the criticalities of job will not be known since it frames the outline of required skills, academic qualification and experience of a prospective employee. In order to imagine the disastrous effects of this decision, one must have to understand the significance of job descriptions for an organization. It is a fundamental tool of human resource management which assists in enhancing individual as well as organizational efficacy. It defines how position of an employee can contribute in meeting overall vision, mission, goals and objectives of the institute. Even the recruitment campaign of a company is allied with job description since job description articulates the duties to act upon and their respective required qualification. Furthermore, it helps in selecting an individual on the basis of criteria set in his/her job description. The orientation plan and training of employees is also planned when an organization feels that the required qualification is not meeting the demand of a person’s job and this need is defined by job description. The significance of job description does not end here; it also assists organization in developing compensation structure. Performance management need also arises when the comparison of job description is made with the respective practical performance. Last but not least, if organization would not have job description, then a poor performed terminated employee can file a suit against company and it would be impossible for that organization to defend itself.
