Artistic Analysis: The Exit through the Gift Shop
Introduction
The art uncovers a deep reality about the lives of those who thrust in darkness during better part of their lives (Meneely and Portillo, 157). The movie entitled “The Exit through the Gift Shop” features an inexperienced filmmaker who has a highest degree of commitment towards endorsing the energies to expose the work of street artists on the global level. The central character of the story has a name of Thierry Guetta. Thierry has a weakness for street art and artists, and therefore, he is constantly filming their activities. The moviemaker becomes an artist by himself in order to assist his seinors in their work. The artist, Banksy tells the tale of Thierry who lost perspective of his own life during his pursuit of street artists. The film was directed by Banksy, and the production team of the project included Holly Cushing, Jamie D’Cruz, and James Gay-Rees. Guetta did not tell anyone that he is not working on the plan to produce formal film, and he was going to launch the unedited version as final one.
Guetta had a particular weakness for an artist known as Banksy, but he did not like any publicity of his work. However, Guetta’s fortune changed when his dream artist visited Los Angeles, and over there he met his fan. The key message of the movie is about the quality of artwork that shows itself on the walls. The audience liked the work, and the art-show was recognized as a significant success because the people loved to have something new to see. The art lies in the eyes of the beholder, and therefore, one never knows what the general becomes fan of. The reckless and informal form of art stalks the lives of the lower social class, and therefore, they can relate their lives with the paintings. With the passage of time, street art is transforming into famous line of work because it is fearless, honest, and in the face. The street artists did not have follow the social norms, and values because their anonymity is their biggest weapon, and the artists reacted badly towards the movie because it featured an attempt to circumvent their most powerful weapon. However, the movie gave the artists an important and valuable chance to promote their work on the global level. The internationalization of the profession caused the artists to surface from the underground world to the prominent one, and therefore, they have to forego their freedoms.
Conclusion
The artist cannot let go of his or her freedom because it permits the individual to express his or her thoughts in a free environment, but when the practice of arts becomes a business then, customer’s needs guide the work of an artist. The movie promoted the artworks of those who loved to live in the dark. The intention behind the movie was rather noble, but it did not generate any civic results because when the element of fame was introduced then, the power of honesty withered away with the passage of time. At the same time, the artists did not take breach of their privacy lightly, and did not endorse the movie as well. However, public loved the featured artworks because for the long time, they failed to find anything honest and truthful in the world of arts. In short, the movie does more good than harm because it made the difference in the lives of suppressed artists in economic terms at least.
