Johnson does not believe that reverse racism or sexism. Johnson notes the relationship in the society tends to have mutual benefits between the oppressed and the oppressor. The moment a particular group views that it gains in various ways from the privileged classes, they do not challenge the system. People internalize the oppression to such extent that they do not realize it and hence, there cannot be reverse sexism or racism. Moreover, it does not challenge one’s moral standards by acting normally in line with the established system. Maintaining the status quo may not affect any of the groups. The inherent prejudices and biases that groups hold against each other do not necessarily point out to oppression. The lack of power that can systematically disadvantage particular groups makes reverse racism impossible. Therefore, there is no way one group can dominate over the other.
The concept of separating privilege from the individuals accorded the privilege is of concern to me. The assertion that people get to enjoy privileges just due to the perception make the whole concept of privileges and oppression more of perception than actual actions. Some members of the certain groups perceived to enjoy privileges may not be benefiting from such since some may face similar circumstances as those not enjoying the same privileges.
