Bekhet (2013) has mentioned the role of positive cognition of the caregivers for the patients of dementia in his article ‘Effects of positive cognitions and resourcefulness on caregiver burden among caregivers of persons with dementia.’ The article is a research-based which the quantitative and qualitative research is since; the questionnaire was distributed among the willing caregivers for this research and interviews were also conducted with these caregivers.
The methodology of the research article was quite concentrating since, it covered the questions pertaining to the positive cognition, resourcefulness, and caregiving burden. Moreover, the method included the research questionnaire to be based on the levels of grading for the given questions, for instance, the 5 scale or 6 scale gradients were used. This method is beneficial in the determination of the results of the research because the graph can be plotted using the levels of grades provided by the subjects which were caregivers. In addition to this, the caregiver’s information was also analyzed. The age, thinking, capabilities of the caregivers were noted which are important for this research.
On the contrary, the method was devoid of the division of the caregivers. All of the caregivers do not have same properties. Therefore, the caregivers which were similar in the capabilities and nature should be analyzed in order to achieve the results which are not biased by the presence of different qualities and hence, the average characteristics and effects of positive cognition can be determined.
The article possessed the linear regression which was the evidence for the positive cognition of the caregivers which affects the resourcefulness of their patients. Dementia is the disease of the mental capabilities and the positive cognition of the caregiver that to the family caregiver can enhance the improvement in the patient. This is because, the patient commenced to feel the same way as does the caregiver. Hence, the author of this article has collected the right data for the right topic of the caregiving of the dementia patient.
The fact is that the caregiving tasks for the dementia patient can lead to the development of stress, depression, anxiety and other psychological problems (Brodaty, 2009). Correspondingly, the positive cognition can solve the problem and provide the caregivers resourcefulness and relieve them from the caregiving burden. Hence, the positive cognition can be beneficial for both patients and the caregivers.
In order to implement the trend of positive cognition among the caregivers, the strong and awarding interventions should be conducted (Bekhet, 2015). These interventions will include the effects of the positive cognition over the caregiving burden and resourcefulness which is illustrated in this article in the form of the linear regression. Hence, the interventions can develop the knowledge among the caregivers, and they will be able to continue caregiving without feeling any burden and will extract them out from the stressful condition.
Moreover, the article lacks the caregiver’s questionnaire from the older age since, most of the caregivers were young. Consequently, they have the capabilities to develop the cognition positively as compared to the older ones. Eventually, the older caregivers must be examined, and interventions should be conducted for them separately.
