It was presented that the visual model of the modern era, which can be identified using Renaissance ideas and Cartesian ideas in relation to individual reasoning in philosophy. This can also be called Cartesian perspectivalism. This is somehow equivalent with the modern scope regime itself. In relation, the Cartesian perspectivalism was illustrated by two prominent commentators, which are William Ivins and Richard Rorty.
Ivins said that the art’s history during the five hundred years has been a little more than the story of the gradual diffusion of the ideas of the artists as well as the European people. On the other hand, Rory’s claim shows that the Cartesian model shows retinal images. This means that visual arts are the results of what the eyes can see. These are an ideal description of the modern era as different analyses have been brought up to provide better ideas when it comes to portraying the true meaning of the art during the last 500 years.
These are somewhat related to understanding the history of the modern era, to which people may not be able to understand the present world if not being able to understand what has transpired during the early days. Our personal position in regards to the reading is that a person’s ability to see things in different ways and interpretation. It is important to understand that even though a normal person has two eyes, they remain singular in a sense that the vision focuses on one specific visual. This is relevant to the author’s idea that a human vision is conceived in a manner of single eye looking at the peephole at the visual in front of it.
The reading also denotes the essence of exploring both the positive and negative implications of analyzing visual cultures rather than demonizing one or the other. This will enable individuals to be exposed to the real vision or the realities in life. We may have experienced different events that were related to how the modern era was described in the writing, but in the end, we should remember that the tradition of Cartesian perspectivalism and other scopic regime are not just mere representations of the era. They serve as resemblance of how an art can present the truth behind the visuals.
