The sales section and the housekeeping section work in tandem in Communications Retail. While the job of salespersons is to draw the attention of the customers and make sales, the housekeeping staff does the back end job of keeping the store shelves organized and stocked. If the sales staff has to do the job of the housekeeping staff as well, the attention from the customer is lost, leading to chances of loss of valuable revenue for Communications Retail.
Time arrival for work and attention to given jobs makes for a professional organization. Communications Retail has a good reputation in the market and draws hundreds of repeat customers, who are attracted to the well-stocked, attractive displays and efficient sales staff. For the reputation of Communications Retail to remain untarnished, it is critical that everyone in the staff arrives punctually and does their job to the best of their abilities.
Over the last four months, Ms. Sarah of the Housekeeping section has been arriving tardily for work. While the store opens at 10 AM, Ms. Sarah invariably arrives only at noon. This week, she has arrived late for the fourth time. Ms. Sarah is responsible for the housekeeping functions at the Mobile Station, where I work as a salesperson. Late arrivals of Ms. Sarah leave me with no backup for organizing the displays. Invariably, I am tasked to perform the housekeeping role of Mobile Station in addition to my job as salesperson. As a result, I have lost precious customers on many occasions. Many times, customers have walked away from Mobile Station, seeing empty shelves that were not restocked by Ms. Sarah. Ms. Sarah’s tardiness, therefore, is affecting my efficiency as a salesperson and the profitability of Communications Retail.
In view of the above, my recommendations are: -
Ms. Sarah be counseled to arrive on time.
Action be taken to penalize Ms. Sarah if she continues to be tardy.
If the situation fails to improve in a week, a different housekeeping staff be deputed for Mobile Station.
Finally, I wish to assure you that it remains my foremost intention to uphold the values and work ethic of Communications Retail. The tardiness of Ms. Sarah is resulting in my inefficiency, despite my best efforts to do the work of two people. There is the attendant risk of losing valuable customers.
