Recommendations Case Study Samples
Introduction
The Village Green Student Residence was inaugurated in September 2010. The single room residence accommodates 120 students, including the Residence Advisors. The residence is located on the campus of the Northern Ontario University, and each Residence Advisors reside on one floor of the building. This is relatively perceived as a safe area of community living that provides access to a few festivals conducted by community, outdoor activities and basic amenities.
There are six recommendations:
The dormitory residents are charged too high, and they are required to purchase their own meal plan card which costs around US$ 2400-2700 and that is valid for 8months of the academic session. Since the students are living in the dormitory and continuing their studies as well the meal plan should be completely eliminated, and the students should be given the liberty to choose and purchase their own meal plan.
One of the biggest challenges the Village Green Student Residence is facing it to keep the rooms occupied. The second recommendation is that the international students must be attracted in the way that they should be given discounted room packages, some free services and amenities with high standards and quality so they feel relaxed and at home and do not shift to another place.
Since the Immigration to Canada is encouraged all over the country due to the projected decline in the population in the upcoming years with many baby boomers declining retiring lately, the immigrations are required in order to ensure that the existing operational efficiency of the country continues and does not come to hold. This means that the overall effort is required from every end to encourage the international students from coming to Canada. The Village Green Student Residence should join hands with the government and launch programs that assist to at small communities to attract the professionals who want to migrate to Canada to study further and work in Canada as well. Apart from this Village Green Student Residence must encourage government to offer scholarships and fees, discounts for the international students, so they are encouraged to travel to Canada; study and work here. These incentive programs must be launched as it is more difficult to attract immigrants to small urban cities as compared to the large ones.
The services offered to the international students at dormitory must be improved and the Residence advisors must be vigilant about this as many international students leave the dormitory residence and shift to other houses or apartments as they are not provided good quality services at dormitory for the amount of fees they pay. There are many complaints that the international students have launched in this regard, and these are turning to be negative for the dormitory residence as once a bad word is spread about the services offered, the fewer students will be attracted to come live here for long period of time. These complaints, make it difficult for the international residence to live there, and the place is unable to retain the potential assets. An informal survey was conducted by the international students that have been currently residing in the Village Green Student Residence, and they complained that the place is too congested, overcrowded and noisy which makes it difficult for them to study. It is recommended that a proper disciplinary action should be in placed and the residents should be guided to control the noise situation at each floor and to ensure that other students are not disturbed, and fine should be imposed on the ones that disturb the discipline of the dormitory.
The complaint has been lodged that the Internet connections offered by the Village Green Student Residence is expensive (costing US$ 30 per month) and the speed is slow which delays the student projects, assignments and other activities that are Internet related and also that the organized events for the international students are every few. It is recommended that the dormitory improves its Internet connections and they should be free of cost, and the charges must be included in the residence fees.
The advertisements must be placed on the university website to attract the local and international students.
Control and Feedback
Strict measures should be taken by the senior management of the Village Green Student Residence in order to control the alarming situation. Otherwise they will lose their potential international residence. Once the issues are rectified, the students should be asked to fill the survey forms that will provide effective feedback to the management regarding whether the services have been improved and the level of complaints about the international students.
Contingency Plan
If the above plan does not work, it is important that the management must put the foot down and conduct survey from the residence directly of what improvement do they require, what changes are needed, suggested cost of each service and then final decision must be made on how to go about with the tasks again.
