Source and utilization of power in a nursing environment
Leadership is the basis or plays a critical role in nursing, where a leadership needs to perform various duties such as training, motivation, communication, assessment, supervision, counseling, and conflict leadership. Among these personal, positional and coercive power are important. Personal power in terms of personal motivation and personal ability, used in leadership roles, helps in motivating other staffs and use of personal power in controlling some domains, like power of charisma, power of position, power of effective communication, and the power of influence to motivate others in giving their best in nursing practice .
Several sources of power are displayed in work environment besides the ones above mentioned, includes the power of information, the power of expertise, the power of punishment, the power of reward and the power to change the work environment.
Nursing Leadership theories and traits
Nurses hold the input in transforming the health care into the 21st century in terms of work, practice and reforms and in enhancing patient care. Nursing leadership helps in developing in their respective skills and other health care professionals . This ensures self-confidence, courage, growth, growth, communication, and appreciation. This covers in knowing the requirements to be done, and the courage to take risks, rather than get staying in previous positions, willing to deal with the unknown aspects of change, ability to make the thoughts and requests clear and to appreciate others in moving forward and grow. Sometimes the lack of courage, ability to take unknown risks and poor vision in achieving organizational and personal goal hinders the leadership abilities . To lessen the detrimental effects that hinder leadership abilities requires proper vision and the courage to take risks. This also accounts in self-leadership, leadership in terms of relation with others, and leadership regarding systems.
