Hello Tracey, you discussion post highlights the importance of critical thinking in health care both on a domestic and global scale. Your post also reflects on a time in the past where your desire was to be a nurse manager. Your post further contrasts this time with the present where you are sufficiently aware of the knowledge and skill requirements, more so with regard to critical thinking. I agree with you that critical thinking skills are requisite in transformational leadership and nurse management. In keeping with this, yours role, as highlighted in your post is very appropriate (Zori, Nosek & Musil, 2010).

Helloit is refreshing that your post highlights the analytical aspect of critical thinking. Your post also illustrates this aspect adequately through examples that practicing nurses relate to in their daily activities. This shows a deep understanding of critical thinking as a concept in nursing. Your post also highlights the importance of reflection in the critical thinking process. Reflection is an opportunity for a nurse to overview the day’s events, often critiquing various actions and choices. This is also an avenue for learning, unlearning and relearning. I agree with your view that mentorship is part of your role in developing critical thinking for the future generations in the nursing institution (Hahn, 2013).

Helloyour definition of the role you play in the development of critical thinking in the nursing institution is influenced by your assessment of critical thinking in its historical perspectives and importance. Part of your assessment of the importance of critical thinking is seen through the illustration you gave where you had to use these skills in patient care (Rubenfeld & Scheffer, 2010). I agree with you that critical thinking helps improve patient outcomes; otherwise you would have lost your patient. Your general take that critical thinking should be institutionalized in nursing is vindicated by this illustration.

Hello Kelly, I agree with you that the line between a case manager and disease navigator is very thin with regards to definition. The scope of the two nursing professionals is very similar down to the requirements in knowledge, their relationship with the patients and the levels at which they work. However, your post has been excellent in finding the distinction between a case manager and a disease navigator. Although they have stark similarities, the disease navigator is more knowledgeable on specific disease conditions, knowledge that the disease navigator uses to tailor-make care for patients (Finkelman, 2011).

Helloyour discussion posts explores the similarities between case management and disease navigation. I agree with you that these two domains are similar in terms of scope and the fact that disease navigators and case managers are nursing professionals among other things. However, your discussion post highlights the fact that disease navigators are trained and focus on certain disease conditions while the scope of the case manager is broader. In this sense, case managers will focus on patients on a broader scope without specifically focusing on specific disease conditions.

Helloyour discussion post highlights the similarities between case management and disease management. I agree with that in the context of increase in co-morbidities, increase in health care costs and rise in the prevalence of noncommunicable disease, case management and disease management in the continuum of care are indispensable. I also agree with you that disease management focuses on specific disease conditions at different levels of care. Even though there is a small difference between case management and disease management, they are both important in healthcare (McDonald, Frazer & Cowley, 2013).
