PURPOSE:

This review paper is a chance for students to explore issues in the field of engineering. Using their passions and interest as a starting point for research, student should use a variety of periodicals and publications which give them experience evaluating an appropriate source, and also give them familiarity with common publications in their field. In the end, student will have written an academic paper that is properly formatted and referenced, gained broader perspective on current issues, and have some practical experience with key publications in the field.

KEY QUESTIONS:

The name of my paper is:
How Geophysical Precursors in Predicting Earthquakes
This issue I’m choosing to focus on is:
Everywhere in the world, earthquakes occur without any or to some extent very little warning. Earthquakes are very devastating and have killed thousands of people in different parts of the world where they occur. All these could be easily reduced or avoided and at the same time many lives saved if and only if earthquakes can easily and accurately be detected. Geographical precursors can help in the short term in predicting occurrences of earthquakes. This method focuses on the physical principles used in monitoring the common precursors and evaluating on their accurate use in the prediction of to predict the outcome of earthquakes accurately.

What I currently know about this topic:

Successful prediction of earthquakes have been done in different parts of the world, and this has seriously aided in the saving of innocent lives. Geographical precursors were used successfully in Yunnan, China. At the same time, this method has not been successful in some regions e.g. Tangshan, China. Geographical precursors work in a way that they bring changes to the physical conditions of the earth that are precursors to earthquakes. This method also includes the analysis of statistical data before the earthquake.

This issue is important because:

The issue of earthquake prediction is much important because in all parts of the work which experiences earthquakes in most cases are found unaware and for this reason, much lives are lost and at the same time property destroyed. When we can predict the outcome of earthquakes, being a natural calamity, we will be very well equipped for handling the outcome and, for this reason, lives will be saved. It is the fundamental point in this, saving lives. Considering the two most devastating and disastrous earthquakes at San Francisco and Kwanto which struck without warning, so many lives were lost and property destroyed which with good prediction could have been avoided.
