PURPOSE: This review paper is a chance for students to explore issues in the field of engineering. Using their passions and interest as a starting point for research, student should use a variety of periodicals and publications which give them experience evaluating an appropriate source, and also give them familiarity with common publications in their field. In the end, student will have written an academic paper that is properly formatted and referenced, gained broader perspective on current issues, and have some practical experience with key publications in the field.
KEY QUESTIONS:
The name of my paper is: “The importance of integrating sustainability concepts in the Engineering curricula.”
This issue I’m choosing to focus on is: The Engineering proficiency level in terms of sustainability of engineering designs has been very critical ever since. There are engineering stints that proved unsuccessful and even extremely critical in some regions of the world. For instance, most engineering schools teach mechanics and dynamics to ensure safety and durability of engineering creations; however, there is little to no indication that schools are incorporating concepts that include instructions on how to make sustainable engineering designs to their core curriculum.
What I currently know about this topic: As aforementioned, there is very little consideration to integrating sustainability concepts to the overall curriculum of engineering schools not just in America but worldwide. The focus of engineering schools across the globe is innovative approaches to engineering such that students are taught with the principles of engineering safety and durability; nevertheless, there is very little attention being given to the critical importance of sustainability concepts of engineering designs. The concept of engineering sustainability embraces all other important aspects in engineering education. Logically, sustainability principles allow engineering schools to cover safety, durability, innovation, and even some legal and ethical concerns in Engineering. It will also make valid and useful developments into its relationship with other fields like economics, business, and healthcare such that more sustainable engineering designs mean less cost involved.
This issue is important because: This issue is important because it is critical to engineering advancement. When engineering students are only focused on innovation but less on sustainability, issues on safety will surely emerge as a result. As engineering field continue to be used in other fields like business, medicine, fashion, entertainment, education, etc., it is really important that sustainable concepts work out the benefit of having durable and long-lasting engineering outputs.
