Many people have come to view the American culture, lifestyle and way of life as the real and ultimate way to live. It has become a very active player in the economic, military and political dimensions. The power and force of America have also been asserted by its penetration of international opportunities and interests that it has its eyes on all over the world. Its domination in the world affairs also meant that it had to stop any European nation in acquiring any more colonies or meddling with the Western Hemisphere altogether. Its power and influence have since increased during the Obama administration.
As the United States move forward to reiterate its position in the world affair, the sailing has not been smooth with the rising challenges that the country has faced. Terrorism and extremism are the biggest challenge America has faced in the twentieth century. Its allies and interests have always been the target of terrorist activities. These threats have led America to move in and respond to their threats by stationing its troops in strategic areas all over the world. National security is an issue that the super power doesn’t take for granted, this has led to America to demonstrate its ability to combat these threats with all the might at its disposal. Collaborating with its allies is also an ideal that it has embraced because with collective action they can mobilize many resources in order to deal with aggression by enemies.In as much as terrorism and aggression remains America’s biggest threat, it has also recognized that there are many challenges it has to combat. Cybercrime is also a vital concern to the United States. Being the world leader in technology, it has been the target of unscrupulous criminals who plot to steal from the government and its citizens alike. With most of the systems and processes in America being automated it has become a soft landing for cyber-criminals who take to the Internet to defraud corporations, individuals, as well as the government. Therefore, it has led to the government to formulating stringent processes of securing the internet for safer cyberspace. Climate change is also a crucial issue that America has put a lot of emphasis on. As a world leader, it has led other partners to confront this challenge by formulating and coming up with regulations to ensure that industrial powers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
The threat from other countries also remains imminent, a fact that America is fully aware of. There are so many countries that want to take over Americas place in world affairs. Competition from China and Russia are imminent, and as America keeps on with its agenda it does not downplay this important factor. As China rushes to catch up with military, technology and economic prosperity, America does not settle on its laurels as it also comes up with ways to always stay ahead of the game in world affairs. In spite of all these efforts to foster prosperity in the world, it has faced a lot of challenges including being labeled a ‘bully’ by some Middle East countries because of its efforts to fight terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIL. It has been accused of overbearing and being heavy-handed in the way it handles world matters.
