Roman Empire Essay Example

The political fall of Roman Empire is considered to be one of the critical events in human history. There have been arguments about the cause of the fall. Some of these causes range from thinking of immorality and corruption, over ‘paganism’, too much Christianity, slack morals, population decline and climate change. The Roman Empire was long been divided into western and eastern regions because it was well recognized that the emperor in Rome cannot lead all the provinces effectively.
However, the Eastern half of the Roman Empire was able to survive after the fall of the West. The Eastern Empire was termed as the Byzantine Empire after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Its people were identified as Romans; it has Greek language and dissimilar territorial borders. The survival of Byzantine was due to its logistics and administration. The system used to govern the region was advance which is reproduced by Eastern Islamic Power and applied by Western Frankish Kingdoms.
The Byzantine encourage intellectual and commercial advancement since its military is relatively smaller than the opponents’. The empire depended on strategy and not on strength to attain victory. It uses their resources effectively and collects taxes at appropriate times to supply needs.
The increasing conflict between Sassanid Persia and Byzantium shape the Empire’s development. The Sassanid Persians were more competent, dangerous and forceful than their forerunners. The increased threats to the empire were expedient for changing the institution of the Byzantine.
The Byzantium was a desirable target for conquest because the theme system was not altered by a long lasting system. It made the empire short of structural strengths that it relied on the dynastic strength. The insufficiency of this method resulted to the collapse of the Byzantine Empire.
