Sample Admission Essay On Why Do You Wish To Pursue Studies At The University Of Guelph-Humber?

I have concluded that I wish to pursue my studies at Guelph-Humber University because it offers a wide range of studies that are important when it comes to pursuing a career as a police officer. Guelph-Humber offers a prestigious line up of learning platforms including newly advanced opportunities like cybercrime studies which are an important new and developing criminal issue that I would likely encounter in my line of work in the future. I will have a unique opportunity if I can attend this university to become diverse in my field of study offering me the chance to pursue my career more capably when my courses are completed. Dr. Gary Ellis, who is the program head at the University of Guelph-Humber, indicates on the page explaining the required curriculum that “The field of justice is changing immensely. With greater awareness of how various parts of society intersect has come a new focus on the justice system as a whole. We have cybercrime, we have an aging population, we have globalization, we have migrating populations, and we have new expectations of how these pieces should work together.” I agree whole heartedly that these skills are essential for all up and coming law enforcement to have a complex understanding of and this university offers the curriculum needed to develop these necessary skills. These classes will provide the educational aspect I need and I can attribute my academic success to hard work and the information I attained from this University.

What are some extracurricular activities that contribute to your personal development as a citizen?

I have been very active in developing the citizenship traits needed to become an exemplary part of the criminal justice system. Through my experience as a Loss Prevention Investigator and Security Officer, I have dealt effectively with a variety of law enforcement related situations. These include communicating and building relations with the public; responding to emergency calls (fire, bomb threats, theft, etc.); detecting and apprehending customers engaged in fraudulent activities; liaising with management, Police Officers and other law environment agencies; writing reports; and operating security equipment. In the process of performing my duties, I have implicitly adhered to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures while demonstrating the level of commitment, awareness and diligence to ensure the safety of the public/customers while also protecting the assets and properties of the Company. As a result, I have acquired the tact, diplomacy, and level of professionalism required to represent York Regional Police which I have had the opportunity to volunteer for giving me the chance to be involved in various different tasks in the community including active participation in community events and offering crime prevention tips, registration, administration duties and much more to both officers and auxiliary’s. the York Regional police volunteer position has instilled me with a great admiration for the officers who serve this community and a deep desire, not only become a part of this admirable team but to have the skills needed to be an exemplary officer with York as a unique team member that has something new to offer them. Attending the courses that have been carefully designed at Guelph-Humber University would be an opportunity that could provide the education that when paired with my persistence would help me achieve this ultimate goal. I am interested in not only being part of this school but also in becoming an outstanding example for future students as I am committed to striving for excellence with achievements that can be including on my resume that I can only attain here. I vow to be diligent in my studies and dedicated to success which will honor me as well as the university.

Why did you find it important to repeat courses?

There are many reasons why a student might repeat a course, when I repeated University English it was to achieve a higher mark so I might be granted an opportunity to attend Guelph-Humber University. While repeating this course I learned that it is important to develop these skills for my career field choice as it requires a lot of report writing and note taking to do a great job as an officer. I wanted to excel at every aspect of my future career and this was an essential one as my colleagues and I will depend on the reports I write and notes I take for analysis of cases. When in the profession of law enforcement proper writing is critical as courts and other officers will use this information to build a case and in the end prosecute offenders and achieve convictions. The decision to repeat University English offered me the chance to develop a greater understanding of English and learn how to apply it to my future career as well as the importance of having a developed understanding of this skill. As a child growing up, I developed a deep admiration of Policing and its importance to our communities. Much of what I have learnt about being a productive Police Officer came from officers who patrolled my community. This early exposure provided me with a good understanding of the roles, responsibilities and importance of Police Officers in serving our community, thus, reinforcing my ambition to be a part of this.
