I decided to write this paper in order to explain and give the idea of importance of the Labour-Management Production Committees (LMPCS) during postwar settlement in Canada. I am trying to research success of such committees among labours using as a source an article written by Peter S. McINNIS. Teamwork for Victory as published in the Industrial Production Cooperation Board, clearly emphasizes the importance of LMPCS. From this study I reached the answer that the aftermath of nationwide labour-management cooperation is rapid growth of the economy.
The problem paper addresses is to discuss the start of one of the most long-lived but successful cooperative experiments in Canadian industrial relations: the Labour-Management Production Committees . They were designed to encourage harmony and teamwork among workers and their interests so to counter the critical wartime problems of worker absenteeism using propaganda such as: posters, a plethora of guidebooks and others. In the broader context the overall cause justified such innovation because the war was to be won at any cost. LMPCS were an important adjunct to the reaching of compulsory collective bargaining. These committees matter because they help to create a better understanding and mutual confidence between labour and management, and also reach harmony which eventually would lead to successful solution of problems. It is important to have such committees during postwar period when community needs to be together and work as a team.
The methodologies used are qualitative measures such as: descriptions of committees and their functions; focus groups which describe particular communities involved that are committees, workers and management. Also, comparison methodology is used when experimenting and comparing the pros and cons of LMPCS existent in postwar period. Numeric studies are used which involve citations of different historical personas.
All in all, harmony, cooperation and teamwork, reached by Labour-Management cooperation committees’ work, served to reinforce an active but rigidly circumscribed sphere for committees’ actions.
The paper is significant because it shows the importance of success of labour-management committees in Canada, which were useful because as it is stated in the article “More Teamwork, More Production, More Sales, More Jobs” [1]. The committees played a vital role in stimulating greater productivity. It is well done and readable due to formulating concise and decent argumentations, and explanations of the article naming the most important ideas.
