Sample Case Study On Lesson Plan: Present Continuoustense
Age: adults, all ages studentsCountry: SpainAims of the Lesson Plan:
- to learn and Practice English language;
-To learn and use Present Continuous Tense in writing and speaking.
Target Language: English.
Assumptions: Students are familiar with the present simple.
Anticipated problems: Although Spanish language is similar the words have different meanings.
Activities: writing and speaking.
Time limit: 45 minutes.
Micro Stages:
1) Warmіng-up exercise ( 5 min.)
Review the usage of Present Simple Tense and how the sentences are built.
Example: She reads books every day.
They go to the cinema on Sundays.
The students can be asked to describe their working days.
2) Set Context: Explain the students what the Present Continuous Tense means and when it is used ( 5-8 min.).
3) Analyse the target language: Students try to understand how it is formed ( 3-5 min.).
4) Practice in the whole group:
a) The students are shown the picture of a family doing something. The students try to write sentences using the Present ContinuousTense and describing what each member of the family is doing( 10 min.).
b) The students change the sentences written in Present Simple Tense into Present ContinuousTense ( 5 min.)
Example: Children swim in the river in summer.
Look! Children are swimming now.
c)The students translate the sentences from Spanish into English( 5 min.)
d)Small groups work. The class is divided into small groups of 3-4students and each group is given cut pieces of paper with a written word on each piece. Students have to make a right sentence putting the words in the correct order using Present Continuous Tense. Some extra words can be given to confuse the students. Then each group presents the sentences and gets points ( 10 min.)
This lesson will help the students to master the Present Continuous Tense in usage and formation. The lesson suggests exercises which develop skills in writing and speaking , and working in groups.

the idea that something is happening at the moment of speaking;
the activity in progress (not only at the moment);
future plans.

Parts of Structure: The auxiliary verb (be) is used in Present Simple Tense: am, are, is, and the main verb is used in present participle form: -ing.
