Nurse Norris is supposed to conduct a very uneasy work. She has to build such environment at the GSU that would be oriented on collaboration and common result but not on somebody's individual interest. However, personal motivation and acknowledgment is also important.
In my opinion, she is really able to turn things around. First of all, she must do whatever it takes to prevent self-destruction of team by gossip and talking behind somebody's back. People who work in this unit must be so busy that they would not have time for this. They also should develop this corporate feeling, like they belong to one team and the final benefit for each of them depends on their work together. Secondly, I think it is really important to hire a nurse that would work only with administrative work. It must be a nurse to be understand the specifics of work and it must be a person who deals with new technologies well enough to complete this work quickly and without mistakes. Goodwin could take this position but she is a practicing nurse who likes to work with patients that is why her doing this job may be considered as only temporary option. Some nurses who have experience but feel uneasy with technologies must not be pushed to deal with them. This nurse who would deal with administration work may take care of such problems. And, of course, a motivation, verbal or compensatory, must be developed. People who work at the unit should work for the benefit of it but knowing and feeling that their contribution is appreciated and important.
