Cultural Globalization

According to Ms. Chimamanda Adichie ”The single story creates stereotypes and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete” therefore the biggest danger of such stories is that they can be perceived as the whole truth. In the video the speaker mentions her personal stories, which she has faced throughout her life. After watching this video, it is safe to assume that there are millions of such single time stories which in a way shape our views on certain cultures and countries.
It is extremely important to be aware about other cultures but one should take into consideration that people come from different backgrounds and this makes them the person who they are. Most of us sooner or later risk falling into a critical misunderstanding due to a single story, this is why it is essential not to focus on the negative experience but overlook it and find the positive sides. One of great examples of how to become more aware about other cultures and countries is to research and read different articles, in order to be acquainted with different sides of a particular story. This will help a teacher to be more objective when teaching the students which are representatives of other cultural groups.
Ms. Chimamanda Adichie also mentioned examples when she was under a false impression about Mexicans because of a stereotype about this nation in USA. The same way many people think that all African countries face civil war and poverty, but in reality this concerns only a small part of African continent. There are many educated people from fortunate families who live in Africa, and do their best to improve the living standards in their country.
