Despite many thinking that it is a thing of the past, human trafficking still persists throughout the United States and internationally. Human traffickers have resorted to new tactics such as force, violence, threats and deception coercion to control their victims into engaging in commercial sex or labor against their will.

The US State Department established that there are nearly 600,000 to 800,000-fall victim to trafficking with half of the population being young people under the age of 18 years. Law enforcement agencies from 37 countries have joined efforts to combat international crime. The team will examine the structure of the US criminal justice system and US response to various crimes. This will then be followed by a course of action that will see member states from criminal justice and legal systems that operate similarly and simultaneously in combating international crimes such as terrorism, drug and human trafficking.

Since the freedom of choice and economic improvement are at the core of productivity, human trafficking encumbers national as well as international economic growth. People who seek better lives often fall victim to migrant smugglers and human traffickers. Many of irregular migrants continue to resort to services rendered by migrant smugglers such as the provision of falsified documents, etc. UNODC research has established that the majority of victims are often duped by a recruiter who is pretending to be friendly and, therefore, trustworthy. Traffickers frequently share a common origin with the victim. Finally, more and more women continue to be recruited as traffickers to capture many unsuspecting individuals.
