Analysis

Garbage is one of the important elements that give a detailed account of human behavior and activity. After a thorough analysis of the thrash collected from my roommates, which weighed over five pounds, I was able to identify various items. The thrash contained empty milk containers, computer printed paper, used chewing gum, vegetable peels, old newspapers, rotten food and tissue papers. It also had empty juice cans, lettuce wraps and plastic boxes that usually hold small meals. From the remains of the food found in the thrash, possibly my roommates have most of their meals away from home. The remains of take-away pizza and frozen chicken imply that they consume frozen food. The thrash implies that the members of the room probably work and have no time to prepare food. The thrash also gives a clear picture of the American culture, which consumes sandwiches, juices, milk and pizza on a larger scale.
The remains of bread pieces and packets of grains state that the roommates eat much of carbohydrates than any other item. Furthermore, the empty milk containers and ice-cream boxes imply that they consume desserts and dairy products on a large scale. The waste computer printed paper, which has images of academic texts and statements, implies that the roommates study in a high school or university. The weight of the thrash is so less that it does not seem to belong to a household for a week that holds four members. In other words, it indicates that the roommates maintain thrash bags in other areas of the house. It also suggests that the household recycles some of the waste products, such as disposable glass containers and aluminum cans. Though the thrash tells about the diet consumed by the individuals, it fails to give an estimate of the percentage each food item consumed by them.
The thrash gives a detailed description of the socioeconomic condition of the roommates. The take-away food remains belong to some of the best brands available in the society, which states that they belong to a higher economic class. The rotten food found in the thrash implies that they do not mind wasting costly food and take more food than required. The limited amount of food found in the thrash tells that some part of the thrash goes into the backyard canal and some of it goes to the dog as a feed. The thrash collected from the household is less than the thrash collected from an average US household. It indicates the obsession of the roommates with their health and sanitation. The recycling process followed by them implies that they are conscious about the environment and its preservation. The roommates strictly follow the rules of their municipality by disposing the thrash in a timely manner.
The thrash has no beer containers, which implies that the roommates do not consume any sort of alcoholic beverages. Also, the absence of cigarette leftovers indicates that they stay away from smoking. The thrash contained cans of organic food material, which is an indicator of the consumption of a healthy diet. Less quantity of junk food available in the thrash also indicates that the roommates discourage fast food. In other words, the thrash implies that the roommates are conscious about their health and employ healthy living habits. The thrash gives an account of the economic system of the American culture. It states the diet consumption of the household on the whole. The thrash also briefs about the American education system, which is evident from the waste computer paper present in the thrash. The computer paper contains worksheets, which denotes that the study mode is practical rather than theoretical. On the whole, the thrash gives complete information about the household, its culture, social and economic background and living habits.
