Environmental safeguarding is one of the essential aspects any administration should seek to adopt. The United States under the federal government sought to take action and protect the natural environment by formation of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1970. This agency is tasked with the protection of the environment on three fronts that are; the air pollution, the water pollution and the land pollution. This protection is meant to ensure that the contamination that occurs is kept to a scale that is not harmful not only to the human population but also the animal and plant life. The set up of the agency meant that rules and regulations were put in place to ensure the population was not engaging in activities that would bring harm to the environment in any way.
It is of significance to note that many governments have not regarded the protection of environments with the urgency it deserves. The protection of the environment trickles down to every aspect of the population. Lack of adequate protection has led to global warming, lack of sufficient resources in many areas, and this has seen the economy take a nose dive affecting every person. It is the responsibility of the administration to put in place laws that preside over the protection of the surroundings. Undoubtedly, there is a need to regulate the activities that the population engages in a bid to make certain that the surroundings are not affected in any way.
The apparatus put in place by the EPA are such that they are both the market-based as well as those that seek to elevate the principles in the fortification of the environment. The government offers incentives and another permit to companies that are shown to affect the protection of the environment. Companies that have fully adopted the green mechanisms are likely to trade better in the country, contrary to those that are not in line with the regulation from the federal government. By providing these incentives, the government can attract markets and businesses that are safe and whose products will not harm the environment, in the long run.
Another positive move by the government is the imposing of fines and to others serving prison terms in an effort to deter future pollutants from committing these crimes. The policies set have seen the companies have an amount in the pollution that a company can emit in a year. The companies are supposed to disclose to the public the amount of pollution they contribute. The public is afforded the right to know this as well as the amount of pollution that is required. This regulation is necessary to have as it will curb the emission of pollution by the companies (Greene, 2012). 
This enforcement is a good move as it has seen companies establish regulations in an effort to reduce the embarrassments associated with emissions. Many companies have moved their operations to one that is ‘green’. This move has seen the companies have better competition since they can cut a niche for themselves in their industry. It gives them legitimacy in the organization as persons who are environmentally conscious will be more inclined to take business from them. Businesses need to be environmentally aware in that they develop technologies that are sustainable, and these technologies will focus on the minimization and elimination of pollution in the environment.
