Sample Essay On Pollution In Coal Run Industries

The Editorial Board of the New York Times on March 23, 2015 in the article “Clean Air Act and Dirty Coal at the Supreme Court,” discusses the concern of mercury emission from the coal run industries. At the Supreme Court, a case challenging the interpretation of the Clean Air Act had been filled. The Congress passed this law in 1970 and amended it in 1990. The board noted that mercury accumulates in the water sources and fish that end up in the bodies of the consumers of both the water and the fish consumers. Mercury affects the brain development of young children. On the same note, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an improved air quality can stop up to 11,000 premature deaths. Coal miners argue that there is no clear link of what they ought to do and to what level in preventing air pollution.
I have learned that air pollution lead to up to 11,000 premature deaths. In addition, mercury that mainly comes from coal mines finds its way into the water and consequently into the fish. Consumption of the water or fish with high levels of mercury affects the brain development of children.
Air pollution is a major concern for every person in the world today especially in the major towns. The transport industries and the other industries produce tremendous amounts of smoke, gases that are toxic to the both animals and plants. The laws seem weak to stop air pollution. The author’s ideas are valid since they refer to EPA, the body mandated to protect the environment.
The article affects me in that the laws ought to protect me from illegal activities from the rogue companies that refuse to follow the regulation on pollution. I am a consumer of fish and water and the thought that the water might have high amounts of mercury that could have affected by brain development makes me anxious. Nobody wants any of the American children to be mentally challenged due to pollution.
