According to the bible in the book of Luke 10:27, it is written that you love your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind (Geoghegan, 2002). This, biblically is considered to be the greatest commandment. The commandment emphasizes on the need of loving God with all your everything, this can be done by ensuring that whatever one does praises God and do not go against God’s teachings and promises for one to live a holy life that pleases God and inherit eternal life. Furthermore, this commandment spells out that it is not only enough to love God with all your heart but to also love your neighbor as you love yourself (Geoghegan, 2002). In other words, this commandment makes it clear that if you want to live a happy life that also guarantees an eternal life, one should do everything in accordance to the word of God. Furthermore, this commandment also speaks about loving God with all your everything, it further states that all the laws and prophets depend on the two commandments meaning that the two i.e. loving God and your neighbor act as guiding principles to Christians.
My neighbor according to the passage in the book of Luke, is any person who is in need of help or assistance from me, this is clearly demonstrated in Luke 10:30. The verse teaches about a man who was from Jerusalem, on his way to Jericho was attacked, stripped of his clothes and beaten by robbers leaving him half dead, a priest and a Levite came, saw the man and passed (Geoghegan, 2002). But a traveling Samaritan when he saw the injured man took pity on him, helped him to nurse his wounds and took him on his donkey to an inn where he took care of him till the next day(Geoghegan, 2002). Jesus describes the Samaritan who had mercy on the robbed man as a neighbor unlike the other two (priest and Levite) who came and passed without offering any help.
