Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs was born February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, CA. He was an American businessman, widely regarded as a pioneer in the IT-technology era . Steve Jobs was one of the founders, chairman and CEO of the Apple as well as one of the founders and CEO of the Pixar studio.
As a child, Jobs was a big bully, who had all the chances to become a juvenile delinquent. He was expelled from school after the third grade. His transfer to another school was a significant moment in the life thanks to the remarkable teacher who found the approach to him. As a result, he began to learn. In 1972, Steve Jobs graduated from high school and enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon, but after the first semester, he dropped out. Later he mentioned that this one of his best decisions ever.
In the late 1970s, Steve and his friend Steve Wozniak developed one of the first personal computers constituting a great commercial potential. The Apple II was Apple’s first mass product, initiated by Steve Jobs. “He believed the computer needed to be attractive, unintimidating, and simple to use. This was Jobs’s fundamental insight, and it is what has distinguished every Apple product brought to market since and what defines the Apple bran” (Halpern). Later, Jobs saw the commercial potential of the mouse-driven Graphical user interface, which led to the advent of such computers Apple Lisa and, one year later, Macintosh (Mac).
After losing a power in the board of directors in 1985, Jobs left Apple and founded NeXT - the company developing computer platforms for both universities and businesses. In 1986, he acquired the Lucasfilm computer graphics division, having turned it into a Pixar studio. He remained Pixar CEO and major shareholder until the studio was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2006, which made Jobs the largest private shareholder and board member of Disney.
Difficulties in developing a new operating system for Mac led to the purchase of NeXT by Apple in 1996, As a result, Jobs was appointed adviser to Apple under the agreement. By 1997, Jobs returned control of Apple. Under his leadership, the company was saved from bankruptcy and became profitable a year later. Over the next decade, Jobs led the development of Mac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone and iPad, as well as the development of the Apple Store, iTunes Store, App Store and iBookstore. The success of these products and service provided several years of stable financial returns, having made Apple the expensive public company in the world in 2011.
Jobs received public acknowledgment and several awards for his impact on the technology and music industries. Jobs is often called a "visionary" and even "the father of the digital revolution." Jobs was a brilliant orator and lead out the presentation of innovative products to a new level, having turned them into a fascinating show. His easily recognizable figure in a black turtleneck, jeans and sneakers shabby is surrounded by a kind of cult.
Isaacson wrote that “Jobs wasn't a visionary or even a particularly talented electronic engineer. But he was a businessman of astonishing flair and focus, a marketing genius, and – when he was getting it right, which wasn't always – had an intuitive sense of what the customer would want before the customer had any idea. He was obsessed with the products, rather than with the money: happily, as he discovered, if you get the products right, the money will come” (qtd. in Leith).
After eight years of struggle with the disease in 2011, Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer.
