My visit to the New York Transit Museum (NYTM) was very insightful and interesting as well. The experience aroused my feelings about the transport system in the New York and the novelty of the Museum, given that it was my first time to visit such a place. In this discussion, I will describe my personal feelings throughout the visit and what I got to learn from this phenomenal experience.
While touring the NYTM, I got to appreciate the advancements that have taken place on the public transport throughout New York. In fact, when I first came to the U.S., and encountered the progress that New York has made in regards to public transport, I would not help but wonder what the situation was like in the early years. However, my curiosity was quenched through the visit since I got to learn from the struggle New York endured before embracing the advancements it relishes in public transport. I felt that some of the people who made a great contribution to the modern public transport system in New York must have passed on without even having to see the fruits of their work. Furthermore, the mere honoring the contributions of the masterminds of the modern public transport in not enough because if it were not for the educational tour to the NYTM, I would not have known any of these great people.
My perception on the public transport in New York was ameliorated following the visit to the museum being a student. Often, students operate under fixed budgets and have no money to afford personal transport to school. In the light of this, I am no exception, and this is the reason I use public transport each day. The visit to the museum motivated me to appraise the efforts taken to improve the public transport in New York by individuals. Their selfless exertions come forth as the reason I do not struggle with using public transport.
In my opinion, the visit to the museum was a way of showing the students that nothing is impossible. Beginning from a point where public transport was a major means of transport of across New York yet still the public transport system was unable to accommodate these increasing demands; New York’s transport system has undergone a revolution. On the same vein, I translated the visit to mean that with determination and hard work, anything is possible. Who knew that the public transport will reach the current advanced state in New York? I guess it is only a few individuals who believed in themselves and devoted their time and resources to it. I learnt that if one believes in something and commits to achieving it, there is nothing that can hinder him or her
What is more is that, the visit presented a set of new information to me. I felt that visiting new places, such as this museum, expose a person to new information and as we know, information is power. It occurred to me that in order for to hone my knowledge of New York; I had to make tours and visit an integral part of my learning process. The knowledge I acquired from the visit was priceless.
Conclusively, good infrastructure makes a city a place where investments and business can be conducted easily. Hence, government should ensure that they improve their infrastructure up to their standards for development.
