Sample Personal Statement On Finance
Admission Essay
My fascination in the field of Finance roots from my realization that no matter what people say, the world is truly run by money. Money dictates a lot in society. It creates division but at the same can unify countries. What I am pointing is that Finance plays a vital role in the maintenance of the world’s balance and structures. The profession entails a lot of analytical and problem-solving skills which I am confident I possess as an individual. My life has been colored by independence and logical thinking both of which I consider as my greatest strengths in applying for a program in Business.
I have always held an independent standpoint when it comes to the things I wish to pursue. Living alone taught me independence. I practiced discipline and initiative because I do not have anyone to rely on but myself. This new found sense of responsibility positively impacted my grades because I worked harder and as a result performed well in classes. I was able to participate actively during class discussion because I read my lessons in advance. I also contributed during group activities.
When I moved from Indonesia, the first thing I had to adjust to was the climate difference. My body was not use to the cold temperature in the U.S and it eventually led to constant sickness. It affected my grades but it did not dampen my spirits but rather served as a challenge for me to double my efforts in adapting. Another challenge that came my way as the difficulty I encountered during my Business Law class. Because I was still new in the country, catching up in the lessons was difficult. I had to prepare extra hard during exams because I do not want to fail the class. My lack of science background also made studying Chemistry and Nutrition problematic for me. But I soon got over those obstacles and managed to pass each class.
When I started living alone, I was given the chance to reflect on what I want to become. Successful was of course one of the aspiration that immediately popped out of my mind, but more than that I want to become a professional with substance. I want to positively impact the lives of other and remain intellectually challenged. Adapting to a new environment is never easy. As an international student, it was a fact of life that I had to accept since I flew from my home country to the United States. My family was no longer physically present to console me during difficult times. I matured overtime because of what was happening in my life. If before all can think about was having fun, I soon learned about the reality of life that it is a difficult world.
The building blocks of my life came from my quantitative and analytical skills which I believe are useful in the career I chose. My dad inspired me to take Business with a major in finance because he believes that it will challenge me to strive hard. My dad is a businessman and I would often observe how he handles clients. I admire his professional especially in handling irate and difficult people and how he managed to remain calm and collected. He told me that despite the complexity and demands of Finance I will soon see the fruits of my labor especially when I make a name for myself.
In 2015, I am set to finish my associate degree in business. I want to continue my studies in a university because I believe that will build more networks and open more career possibilities for me. I am keen in seeking admission in the University of Washington because of the institution’s goal of honing professionals defined by global competence and social responsibility.
As an individual who enjoys learning, I am open to any opportunities I can get to better myself. I often participated in extra-curricular activities that were beyond my course. I joined related to arts and crafts and also volunteer organizations that served as stages for me in expressing my skills and talents. I am a very creative person and I enjoy creating things with my hands. I combine my love for art and serving others during my stint with the Indonesian Non-profit Organization, Permais Seatle. I helped in the preparation during the college musical performance. I learned the values of team work and interdependence due to these affiliations.
What I can offer is my passion towards the business world. I know what I want to achieve in life and I will stop at nothing until I get there. I am aware that there are still a number of hurdles to pass, but with my sincere desire of completing my degree I now I can pull through. As the saying goes, nothing comes easy, if you want something, you need to work hard for it. My dream started in humble beginnings, I would read newspapers and see people like the late Steve Jobs and read about how their creativity and innovation changed the landscape of the world. I said to myself that one day I will be like them and inspire other people.
