The most basic uses of information systems include the systems for recruitment, online performance management appraisals, e-learning, online psychometric testing. The information systems are also used by large organizations to consolidate their human resource centers to one whereby they use the human resource services together such as the emails, telephones to deal with human resource issues. E-learning has also made it possible for employees who are willing to continue with their education. All these issues raise a number of problems and human resource managers on how the workers in any organization have to be sorted out can only sort this out.
This paper offers the instances that organizations are taking advantage of in the bid to gain competitive advantage over their rivals. The issue of employee retention is also discussed in this report. In terms of the benefits of the benefits to the human resource management in all organizations, all the information regarding the specific employees were placed in the database and could be retrieved when different reports are needed.

Introduction

In the current era, there has been an increase in the need for information technology in human resource management to gain competitive advantage. Information technology contributes to the improvement of organizational performance and increases the competencies of the individuals who are in charge of the human resource management. In today’s competitive business environment, there is a need for organizations to embrace information technology and other strategies to advance their competitive advantage. Information technology has transformed how human resource departments conduct their business immensely. This paper focuses on the impacts of information technology and the technological strategies that human resource departments can implement in the bid to retain employees. The advancement of information technology plays a vital role in the retaining of employees (Lievens, 2015).

In the current business setting, there are various advertisements that relate to the different ways in which information technology is used to assist the individuals who are working in any organization. The use of information technology for most human resource managers frees them for tasks that may be considered as mundane. Additionally, they are able to think strategically. Information technology has also ensured that there is a great deal of information that is available for the human resource managers to work. The data that is available can be used to make the baseline decisions and plan.
Teleworking and teleconferencing also mean that individuals do no longer have to be in the same room as the interviewers for the shortlisted applicants for a particular job. The interviews can be conducted online. E-learning has also made it possible for employees who are willing to continue with their education. De and Carlsen (2008), notes that all these issues raise a number of problems and human resource managers on how the workers in any organization have to be sorted out can only sort this out. In terms of highly skilled human resource managers in terms of information technology, the expertise can be used in designing the different job descriptions that have to deal with technological issues. Some of the employees in the organizations work as employees who have to deal with computers, and it is very beneficial if they have the required skill set to deal with such information.

Benefits of information technology to the management

In terms of benefits to the management, information technology can increase the decision-making efficiency while reducing the total cost in terms of budgeting. This can be seen in the Whole Foods Market organization. When the management embraced the use of technology, they were able to drastically reduce their expenditures in the process of recruiting and retention of workers. The unpredicted hours and limited benefits that the workers had in the organization has been sorted out through the development of the Human Resource Information Systems. Additionally, the company was able to create a clear vision of business when the issues if the workers were sorted out and business transparency was improved. At the aggregate level, the process of hiring and firing employees was made easy in that the performance of employees was easily monitored.

As most governments require nowadays, there is need to follow legislation in terms of how workers are treated. This increases the competitive advantage that any organization has in that the organization can be able to reduce the instances of redundancy in their systems. The organizations can thus be efficient and be able to standardize their operations and procedures.

One of the main advantage that the employees face is the easy time management that information technology offers. The use of Human Resource Information Systems ensures that there is a 24/7 availability of data. This increases the staff morale. The automatic reminders and trackers ensure that the employees know what they have to perform at certain times of the day. Additionally the possibility that the employees are able to attend the internal and online training courses, which, in other words, benefit the organization as the staff members increase their personal knowledge and skills.

Importance of information technology in gaining competitive advantage

In the current business environment, many organizations are competing in a globalized economy. The ability to be competitive is a multidimensional concept that allows the different organizations to be described in terms of its competitors. The style in which an organization manages its information is a critical factor in improving its competitiveness. Organizations have realized that the need for a better information system such as the Human resource Information Systems.

The Human resource Information Systems create and maintain employee records. This ensures that the productivity of the employees can be assessed at any time. According to O'Reilly and Pfeffer (2000), the legal compliance of the organization is created by the system thereby attracting the best skills in any organization. This means that the organizations can have a better productivity record and performance thereby increasing the competitiveness of the organization. Additionally some of the information technology systems can be used to identify talent and knowledge managing better than the human beings do. The data that is entered into the systems and the human resource managers can be able to identify the competencies of specific employees and thereby provide developmental opportunities for their employees. The employees, on the other hand, feel that they are valued in the firm and have believe that the firm and they are on the same platform as the firm has their interests at heart. This enables the organizations to retain most of their most talented employees. In terms of how the employees are remunerated, the information systems can identify any discrepancies and provide solutions in a small period. The information that is gathered from one organization also means that organizations can be able to align themselves with other organizations that have the same interests. The information that one organization possess may enable other organizations to collaborate with the organization in the bid to get more productive and competitive. This is due to the enhanced decision-making systems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is evident that the combination of the different information systems platforms and the human resource departments ensure that the firms are able to achieve operative and strategic objectives in terms of competitive advantage over other firms. Additionally the possibility that the employees are able to attend the internal and online training courses, which, in other words, benefit the organization as the staff members increase their personal knowledge and skills. Information technology in many firms is currently seen as a spine in its bid to gain competitive advantage over other firms. This paper has provided the importance of information technology have in terms of enabling the environment in gaining competitive advantage in the organizations. The use of Human Resource Information Systems ensures that there is a 24/7 availability of data. This increases the staff morale. The automatic reminders and trackers ensure that the employees know what they have to perform at certain times of the day. The increase in the employee turnover rate can be dealt with with retention strategies that use information technology.
