Impersonal Analysis

The report was done at the Intercollegiate Human Resources Clinic, sponsored by the American Association of University Women to orient the students on the job market and what to expect. Such an opportunity prepares college students to the responsibilities of the market after they complete their programs. The prospective jobs seekers were given an opportunity to talk about the jobs they want. They were required to state the roles that the job needed, their skills and education to the consultant. The consultant then made a decision on each job-seeker’s understanding of the position requirements, ability to relate the skills acquired in college to the roles and communication skills.

The student displayed a good understanding of the Operation Management position that he wants. During the presentation, he demonstrated good understanding of the responsibilities of such a position. For two hours, he kept the audience alive, a clear demonstration of good communication skills. The job position requires maintaining a flow of information on reports to the senior management. Moreover, during his presentation, he explained how he can handle the roles in a clear and straightforward manner. This is crucial to the position because he can coach office manager effectively as required on a weekly basis (Anderson 5).

Skills, knowledge and education

Operational manager’s position requires at least a bachelor’s degree in business and a minimum of two years of working experience in a management position. He did not have either of the mandatory requirements for the position. However, his presentation brought a new dimension of recruitment because although he did not have the experience and academic skills needed for the job, he was able to match what he had to the requirements. This report recommends that once he gets the right educational papers for the position, he can find a job in the same line though at junior level, and progressively acquire the experience for a management position. His ability to position himself for the job is good.

Strengths and weaknesses

He has good communication skills and understanding of the job market. Additionally, he has good persuasive skills that helped him retain the audience for two hours. He can point out even the smallest mistakes in most company’s operations and argue out the long-term impact that they cause the companies. Most of the issues he raised seemed realistic although they had not been identified in such platforms before. He has good analytic skills and a humble character. When questions were asked, he responded to most of them in a manner that was satisfactory to the audience. He showed good research skills as the topic appeared to have been deeply studied.
However, his time management skills were not satisfactory. During the presentation, he spent substantially unequal amount of time in sections that needed almost the same amount of time. He should set specific amount of time to every activity to ensure that he sticks to the allotted time. In addition, he raised some issues in a way that appeared to criticize the operational managers in some major companies. He should change his criticism approach and highlight management weaknesses in a way that they too, can appreciate.
The presentation highlighted some important strengths as well as weaknesses that should be improved on. He has skills that match his career desire and what he needs is to attain academic requirements and focus on attaining his target. He should also work towards converting his weaknesses into strengths.
