It is easy to use Facebook to learn social psychology in terms of relationships matters. Owing to the details and information presented in the article, Facebook is clearly a social tool more than just a technological phenomenon. In that case, there is much to do with the social welfare and the simplicity to execute all related activities. The site is an open tool and it is relatively unrestricted to a large extent and that access to information regarding other friends is possible. In the same context, it is easy to connect with multiple people known or unknown to someone and included is previous romantic partners (Muise, Christofides, & Desmarais, 2009, p. 441). The social network in which Facebook is included has changed not only the nature of the interaction but also compromised individual privacy. It is currently possible to access private information and trace the engagements of a person.
People spend more time on social media due to the ease of it than other activities. Mostly with the intent to follow up on someone especially those they are close to, for instance, relationship partners. Relationships, by their nature, have two almost independent parties. With the advent of Facebook and social media then it is possible to access some of the social information regarding a partner and that gives rise to the infamous jealousy. In a relationship, especially in the recent past, factors like trust issues, self-esteem and the uncertainties play a key role in determining the association. With social media, the fear of the unknown seems unearthed, and individuals track down their partner’s activities and that is what gives rise to the jealousy (Muise et al., 2009, p. 441). It is the unrestrictive nature of Facebook and the ease of access to other people’s information that exposes individuals to information that would provoke jealousy. In addition, the continuous access creates ground to approve or disapprove the fears. It is the ease that makes the person continue doing the same follow-up activity over and over. The biggest factor that contributes to jealousy is the reconnection of individuals to previous partners, and that naturally brings in an anticipated reaction.
Personal traits contribute to the jealousy attributed to the uncovering of uncertainties through social media and in that case if controlled, jealousy and other trust related issues created by the information on social media will be eliminated. It is certain that a combination of personal traits and information access concerning couples or partners will give rise to jealousy in case any unlikely activities are witnessed. Social media provides the platform to access the unlikely easily and the temptation to actuate that is very high. With the ease also, it is likely that the users will spend more time connected to the sites. It is possible that individuals do not acknowledge that their openness on Facebook is a concern to other people (Muise et al., 2009, p. 443).
The social media tools and in particular Facebook has its users display almost a uniform trend. Individuals dwell more on the social matters and for that reason the site has provided a better platform for the social factors. In a bid to reconnect with the past, the hurdle of access to someone’s past in regard to persons is surpassed with Facebook where it is likely to find a past friend or partner for that matter. In the normal social setting, it is likely to find an individual seeking to reconnect or to find information about the progress of a partner whether current or previous and with Facebook it is the same. The test has revealed what happens not just in the real social scene but also in the social media platforms that are available. From the test results presented, internal consistency is present on which the people involved are giving consistent results indicating that their partners have unknown individuals and past romantic and sexual partners as friends on Facebook. The parallel forms reliability was also used where the open-ended questions were applied to get the wide view of the respondents. That yielded a series of responses that produced consistent results all agreeing to the addiction of Facebook to follow up friends and partners (Muise et al., 2009, p. 443).
The results indicated that people spent more than half an hour a day on Facebook and that on an average translates to much time on the platform. The accuracy of the time given and the percentage given in regard to Facebook usage and influence percentage on the matters of trust along with gender consideration was indicated (Muise et al., 2009, p. 442). The variance was also measured, as well as the time spent on Facebook. It accurately predicted the scores of Facebook jealousy scale, trait-based jealousy and personality and relationship matters.
