Our environment defines who we are and provide the resources we need to achieve our goals in life. The environment in which we lives allocate us roles and responsibilities which we must perform to make our life and those in our midst better. The roles and the responsibilities is what make us co- exist with others in our locality in peace and harmony. Additionally, the our environment is made up of systems (individual or organization) which are independent but support each other to achieve a common goal which is to alleviate the life of every individual in locality and provide them with every resource they need to achieve their goals in life or to survive every challenge they might be facing. These systems integrate and compliment each other to make the environment complete (whole) (Zastrow, 2012)
Identify the main systems that were a part of Dr. King's life.
Dr. King was exposed to a variety of systems which made sure he achieved his goals. The first system expose to Dr. King was his family. The family provided Dr. King with emotional support, comfort and a place to call home. Dr. King was also responsible for providing for his family needs such as housing, food and other essentials. When Dr. King was jail after the protest to the registration office, his wife visited him to give him emotional support and inform him what was going on in the Selma. In the movie, we witness the FBI agent telling president, that the best way to silent Dr. King is through breaking his marriage (YouTube, 2015). This shows the significant of the family to Dr. King. Another system is the government, the role of the government according to the movie is to make sure there is order and to protect the rights of the citizens especially the white majority. The government sees Dr. King as the threat to the peace of the society and it is making sure Dr. King does not achieve his goal of giving the African American the right to vote. However, due to Dr. King persistence and pressure from other systems such religious groups and the media the government grant the African American the right to vote.
How and what role did his wife, Coretta Scott-King play?
Coretta Scott-King played an integral part of Dr. King life; she is his adviser at home. In the movie we are shown where she tells Dr. King on the things to joke or talk about especially in public. She also advises Dr. King to take the advantage of being locked in jail to rest so as to gain energy to continue with the movement (YouTube, 2015).. Additionally she played wife role like cooking, cleaning and packing his bags when Dr. King travelled. Moreover, when Dr. King is arrested after the voting right protest, his wife meets Malcolm X who is an activist. She agrees to Malcolm X request to increase pressure on the government to offer the African American the voting rights. She takes care of the family when Dr. King is away on protesting or travelling e.g. to the White House. She makes an appearance at the court to show support to her husband on his movement to seek the rights of the African American. We also witness her support for her husband in the movie when she joins her husband on the last match (YouTube, 2015).
What were some of the unique interactions between the couple and their systems that influenced their identity and functioning?
One of the scenarios which keep the couple together is the emergence of sex recording. The recording is believed to be originated from Dr. King enemies who are eager to break the marriage. However the recording makes the family even stronger and energies their spirit to continue with the movement .When Dr. King was arrested, Coretta Scott-King filled her husband shoes in fighting for the rights. She reached out to women and Malcolm X to gain the support of the society on her husband’s initiative (YouTube, 2015).
