Product/ Process Description
Appropriate Treatment of Body Fluids Using OSHA Standards
This is a product/ process description and set of instructions of how a child care worker treats body fluids according to Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards and will be presented in the form of a Brochure. Instructions and procedures will be printed using a brochure along with a CD as most people will not have a laptop or a computer. The format will be chosen based on the health workers and nurses who will be using the brochure and CD and the environment where the instructions will be used.
My brochure will have both text and plenty of visuals which helps increase my audience appeal, as some who may not speak English as a first language might use the visuals as instructions and due to this straightforward style my instructions would remain sensitive to cultural differences. A CD along with the brochure on handling or for the treatment of an injured child will catch user’s attention. Finally, a URL at the end points readers to further information.
In order to have an effectual and convincing process and product description, I will use apparent and instructive language. My sets of instruction will be practical and would pursue the structural methods and tools presented in an earlier chapter of Lennon’s Outline for Instructions. Some other possible guiding principles are:
recognize your audience
investigate your topic
use a lucid title or issue
don’t suggest more than you can give
give setting information on the subject at hand
offer the advantages of your explanation
answer questions before they occur
do not burden but be systematic
be sure
make the reader want to take action after reading your offer.
Warning and cautions will be given in Special Notices within the steps.
My audience is child care workers or nurses, who are highly revealed to possible transmittable or contagious diseases.
My audience may not have prior knowledge of handling or treating an injured patient appropriately so I might have a mixed audience i.e. some new and some experienced that is why I will need a layered approach, offering a quick start up document for those in the know and a more comprehensive user for the new users guide have prior knowledge about safety and health standards.
This paper draws on the example of a boy in a child care setting who has fallen, stroked his mouth on a bookshelf, and is bleeding from the cut he received. The method of treating the condition is sketched out in six steps: taking away the wounded child, moving away other children from the wounded child and infected vicinity, shielding the child care worker’s body, cleaning up and disposing off the infectious materials, cleaning up the bookshelf, and carrying out examination and keeping a record.
I would like to conduct a video session presenting the above-stated scenario in a child care setting for health workers and nurses as few may not have laptops or computer handy.
Visuals necessary for my audience will be Brochure, CD, and Video Session
As a result of these instructions I would like my audience to take all the necessary steps mentioned in the brochure and shown via video session for dealing with a bodily fluid such as blood which includes many steps and safety measures. All steps, according to OSHA standards, are essential to achieving inclusive of all the processes in the accurate way.
