Social Stratification Argumentative Essay Examples

Factors that affect social mobility include education, gender, social change, infrastructural development, and industrialization and urbanization (Umar Faroog, 2012). It is possible for one to attain social mobility using the factors affecting since it allow anyone in the society to move up the social ladder. Women have been given the right environment access gainful employment; participate in politics and decision-making, access to education, among others.
Structural-functional theory better explains what happens in the society. The society is in parts each with a given functions and the sections work collaboratively to create the wholeness of the community. The norms, institutions, traditions, and institution play a critical role in the society (Devi Prasad Subedi, n.d). The theory stresses the importance of social structures from which the society derives social functions.
Any individual in the society can be a racist. The minority groups in more than often label the majority as racist in the debate on racial segregation either directly or indirectly. The give and take argument indicates that racism is not an aspect of the majority or the minority. It cuts across all members of the society. Reverse racism is the tendency of the minorities to prejudice the majority for selfish gains. However, it is important to note the racism from the minority groups towards the majority may not negatively affect them since they lack the institutional powers.
Among the race, class and gender, race has the highest power. Inequality in any society tends to have a historical perspective (Russ Long, 2013). For example, in the history of America, the Blacks did not have the initial advantage to own the means of production. They supplied labor as slaves and hence their social mobility is highly compromised. The least powerful is class. The nature of class is fluid in that there is no any strict boundary to distinguish members from one class to another. The social mobility based on class is relatively easy. However, the Blacks have since gained acceptance and have better chances of social mobility. In future, the social segregation on the basis of race may die out completely.
