How the research process is done at St Agnes Hospital in Baltimore

In the event of a research taking place at St Agnes hospital in Baltimore, the Institution Review Board (IRB) takes the responsibility of overseeing the research being conducted within the hospital. It is the responsibility of the IRB to review and approve the research and come up with measures that will ensure that the subjects are fully protected. Protection of the subjects of a research is one of the most crucial things that an institution should adhere to.
The IRB main responsibility is to ensure that the subjects are protected during the time of the research. The primary responsibility of ensuring that subjects receive the necessary protection lies with the clinical investigator. The clinical investigator should first ensure that all the subjects have been adequately informed about the research that they will take part in. After informing the subjects, the clinical investigator then should then ensure that all the rights as well as the welfare of the subject are adequately protected as they take part in the clinical trials.
In St Agnes a number of policies are used to guide the conduct of research. In the institution most of the investigators as well as sponsors rely on the St Agnes Hospital IRB and the institution as a when conducting their research. The SAMC is not engaged in any form of research or project in the institution. After the research has been conducted the institution does not fully release the information apart from brief protocol summaries on the ongoing research. These protocol summaries are found on the hospitals website under clinical research.

Obtain information about current and recent research projects, particularly nursing research

In ST Agnes hospital there is no any research that is currently being undertaken. A number of researches have been done in the hospital and published. One such research that was done found out that wireless technology improved nursing workflow and communications. It was found out that inpatient operations involved a complex process which required an established communication in order to encourage team work among the workers. Team work is necessary since physicians, nurses as well as the unit secretaries required to have a frequent conversion as well as consultations in respect to the welfare of the patient (Nancarrow et al., 2013).
As a result of these findings St Agnes installed a new hand free communication system which used wireless network, voice recognition as well as a very small wearable badge. These devices were aimed at promoting communication within the hospital. In an effort to quantify and establish the real effect of communication system and how they influence the workflow as well as the communication of the team members, the hospital with the sponsorship of the first consulting group conducted a study to evaluate the benefit in December 2003. The research was aimed at quantifying the benefit that the communication system had on the hospital (Breslin et al. 2004).
According to Agee (2009), the process of conducting a research should entails identifying a problem which will be addressed by the research this entails coming up with an appropriate research topic. This is followed by formulation of research questions, objectives as well as the hypothesis of the research. A proposal is then developed which upon approval research study is permitted. The research study process involves seeking for permission before collection of the data as well as engaging the research subjects.
