The book the silent spring looks at the effects of pesticides on the ecosystem environment. Chapters 1 to 6 lays a foundation of the book as the author looks at the current activities of man and their drastic effects on tomorrow. Rachel Carson looks at how man is involved in activities that are intended at solving current issues at the expense of the future. In as much as it is important to take care of the food crops by preventing them from infestation of pastes, scientist can look for alternative and harmless measures that can be used to fight the pests. As scientists invent pesticides to kill pests, the killer solution ends up killing other organisms that were not targeted. Attention is given to birds and even human beings who feed on such products and risk their health and even life.
Care is not being taken on the extended of harm that is caused by such pesticides. The pests being targeted could just be a handful, yet when the pesticide is sprayed; it does not only affect organisms on the surfaces but also underground and even those in the water bodies. Some of the pesticides have been made by strong chemicals, which may even be considered to be too strong for the very organisms being targeted. For instance, if the pesticide has the ability to kill beiger organisms such as birds and fish, then they are too strong for the lady birds and the grasshoppers. The pesticides were probably designed to ensure that the environment is greener and healthier, however, if the trend is not stopped, the future will be blink for the environment with its beauty lost. The natural ecosystem of the beautiful birds singing, insects jumping and chipping, all such beauty will be lost even as humans nurse diseases caused by consumption of poisoned food crops.
