The Book Is They Say I Say Essays Examples
It is rather sad to note that authors Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus disagree that Colleges are worth the price of Admission. Although their sentiments of disagreement are clearly echoed down the passage, pauses of agreements in between paragraphs are evident as they expound on various issues affecting colleges.
After carefully expounding on the financial burdens imposed on graduates and their families, the author openly question the value of college if it only leads to wastage of resources and adds no value to the society. Andrew and Claudia, after carrying out much research, agree that higher education in the Country requires reforms. Although viewing the vocational majors as important, they still insist that students need to pursue courses in Psychology or literature to engage their minds even more. They argue that students need to use their minds, choose the impractical courses hence freeing their intellectual abilities and exploring their vast capabilities instead of the seemingly high paying practical courses. Although Andrew and Claudia agree that for mental recovery, professors and other staff need to take leave off work, they disagree with the constant breaks taken to further one’s research. They argue out that there is no need for the numerous papers generated out of research at the expense of college studies. Research institutions form the basis of advancement in technology but basing them within learning institutions like colleges and varsities degrades higher studies driving essential resources and focus from teaching students to research.
5. I agree with the authors of “Are colleges worth the price of admissions” in stating that learning systems in the colleges require reforms. Clearly the administers of knowledge have abducted their roles and chosen a different path just as the authors point out that’ have lost track of their basic mission to challenge the minds of young people’. It is important to consider that the only reason these colleges exist is to pass knowledge that will better the lives of students. I agree with them that professors need to be constantly monitored in order to improve services rendered to students. It is not in order that the same teaching material that was used to teach a student in the late 90’s is the same one in use today. In forwarding their proposal for change and reforms, The Authors disagree with the former education secretary’s comments that professors should teach students just what is examinable. Although professors should teach students’ things that will later be examined but I still insist that students should be able to gain more than the classroom knowledge; their minds should be challenged
