Leadership is the act of leading an organization or a group of people, or possess the ability to do so. The leader should be able to establish a vision and share it with others in order to get them to follow. The leader will provide information, methods and knowledge that are needed to realize the vision. Leadership involves a lot more than that. It also involves the co-ordination and managing of whatever conflict may arise. During times of crises a leader has the ability to intervene and add their ability to think creatively to resolve the problem. The skills that are necessary for one to possess in order to become a leader, are not taught, but are ingrained into the person. They possess qualities, not skills, which can be honed through mentoring or coaching.
Leadership is important for effective management because, the effective planning and control of processes and people is a huge step in effective management. If the leader is effective, he can promote a professional and positive environment for the workers. In doing so, the teams can create similar attitudes. By engaging the employees, the leader provides a powerful asset for the company. If he fails to do so, then absenteeism and failure to achieve targets may become the norm.
There is no indication that efficiency is more important than effectiveness in an organization. It is difficult for an organization to succeed if it is neither effective or efficient. If an organization is efficient, it can produce with minimal input, while an effective one is one that uses the correct channels to get things done. It effectively provides for the needs of the customers and that is important for a company’s success. Efficiency is important to cut costs, but effectiveness is important to make profits. A business will not prosper if it is not both effective and efficient.
Centralization is a process which concentrates the decision-making to a few people. Each important decision at the lowest level are approved by top managers. It is the consistent and systematic reservation of authorization at central points, or at a central point in the organization. Decentralization, on the other hand, is a delegation of authority in a systematic way at different levels in the organization. The top managers retain the authority to make major decisions or forming policies that relate to the process. The authority can also be delegated to middle and lower levels of management.
The difference between formal and informal planning is that with formal planning, it is structured, there has to be procedures to follow. The process follows a certain path, or direction and there is a record of the process, while informal planning involves a lack of structure, no requirements for procedures, no direction and no documented proof of the process. Planning can be done formally or informally, no approach is superior to the other, as bot can be applied in a business. Formal planning leaves no room for confusion and can not be easily changed, while informal planning is the opposite.
With an aim of getting the receiver to understand the message from the sender. The sender has an idea, he encodes it and sends signals to the recipient who then decodes it to get the meaning. The recipient then provides their feedback to the sender. In a business, the company’s internal and external process of communication is very important to its success.
Employees resist change in an organization for many different reasons, some of the most popular reasons being: because of the possibility of them losing their jobs, a fear of what they do not know, mistrust of their boss, improper timing, their predisposition toward and how they view changes. To overcome this resistance, employers should take time out to understand the nature of the changes, who it will affect the most, the impact that it will have on those it affects and find out the reasons why the change is being resisted.if an employer is aware of these things, the changes can be implemented with little or no issues. Making the employees aware of the changes can also help to remove the mistrust that they harbor.
There currently exists, many different barriers to communication. Some of the barriers to communication can be filtering, emotions, information overload, defensiveness, language, or national culture. It can be noise, physical distractions, Having a meeting or a group session can help in this regard, as there are others who are able to interpret for the ones who are unable to understand for whatever reason. Explaining it to the staff on a one to one basis may prove to be costly.
