The Effects Of Cultural Patterns In Project Research Essay Examples

Abstract

This paper presents the importance of cultural patterns in the preparation of project research. Its effect and advantages will be clearly presented in a global scope affecting cross-cultural variations that affect ability of humans in the conduct of global affairs in business, global governance and in the attaining peaceful resolutions in conflicts among states, nations, different regions for the betterment of mankind. It further explains why leaders are giving importance to cultural patterns in the conduct of their daily activities.

Understanding Cultural Patterns

We are currently living in a digital and global world. Leadership is now a multicultural challenge. In the competition of global marketing, scientific researches and studies are conducted in order to create new products and businesses. Along with this line, multi-national companies are looking into other countries to outsource products for cheaper production cost. The application of supply chain management gave way for Western big companies to put up factories in the developing countries in Asia and Africa. The policies and management practices are being adopted in the developing countries where businesses are outsourced. But how does an American company train new workers in their factories set up in China? These Oriental people have their own mindset and cultural practices. The implementation of policies and procedures can cause language barriers and could be confusing which may give rise to conflicts in the workplace. " The contracting attitudes toward conflict give rise to quiet different cultural based communication styles. During intercultural communication events, these divergent styles can result in confusion, misinterpretation, or even anomosity among the participants"( Samovar, Porter, McDaniel & Roy, 2012, p. 209). It is very vital to consider cultural patterns in the conduct of project researches because cultural patterns involve value orientation which encompass people’s beliefs, social orientation and behavior in a given culture. “The conflict resolution is a cultural phenomenon. Ross (1993,p. 19) coined the term culture of conflict, which reflects the norms, practices and institutions of a given society which determine their perception of conflict (Bjorkqvist, 1997, p. 4). Cultural intelligence which social scientists calls the CQ interrelate in the conduct of project research.What cultural information is needed to fulfill this task? What behaviors do they need to adapt to do it effectively” (Livermore, 2010, p.4) Why are some leaders able to negotiate and create trust with Chinese, Latin Americans, and Germans all in the same day, while others could barely manage the diversity in their own offices? The answer lies in their cultural intelligence, or CQ (Livermore, 2010, p. 3).
In the establishment of the United Nations in 1945, it included in its preamble the consideration of cultural patterns, to wit: “to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law” (preamble of the United Nations). I therefore conclude that it is imperative to include cultural patterns in the conduct of project research for it to be effectively implemented.
