The Forgetting Video: Questions Essays Examples
1. While watching this film, I was most surprised by how heavily this family was affected by AD; even though I knew it had a genetic link, this family has had so many members affected. I was surprised by how many in the family didn’t want the results of their genetic testing. I can’t imagine not knowing and being able to prepare, especially given how much distress they suffered in caring for their ailing family members and trying to manage their treatment/end of life plans.2. I would share the symptoms about early onset Alzheimers with friends and family, because the symptoms for early onset are not the same as those for later onset and could easily be mistaken for something else, as occurred with the Noonan family. Aggression, depression, and behavior changes are some of the prominent early symptoms, rather than the forgetfulness that many people associate Alzheimers with.
3. I found the information about genetics to be the most informative. I had no idea that children of parents with Alzheimer's have a 50% of inheriting the disease; those are frightening odds. I also found it fascinating that only 200 family lines in the world carry the mutation that causes early onset AD.
4. I liked the section on genetics the most, as I felt that the speaker combined both personal narrative and research. I found the discussion about the Memory Ride the least interesting; I think it’s great that the family has channeled their pain into something productive but it did not really expand my knowledge or understanding of how AD affects families.
