The job description of database administrators is somewhat similar across the two employment websites. The main roles include the basic database administration activities such as doing backup, security management, upgrading the software, disaster recovery, data import and export and general maintenance of the database. The administrator is also required to assist in data implementation, conversion and in the transition to new business systems. This includes taking part in process definitions, contingency planning, risk analysis and functional data analysis.
Administrators are also required to assist users in developing and creating new databases, establish new user accounts and passwords, determine database requirements and training users on the navigation of the database.
Some positions require that the database administrator provides reports for the company and participates in in all the projects assigned to him by the IT manager while others require that the database administrator assists in the performance tuning and trouble shooting of the database.
All positions require an administrator with knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL server and T- SQL, Oracle database administration and database optimization. All applicants should be able to work in high pressure environments, have a high attention to0 detail and have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
The salaries offered for this position range from $60,000 a year to $120,000 a year depending on the qualifications and the work experience of the applicants, the median salary is $68,000 per year. Applicants who are just starting out and have less than five years’ experience earn from $60,000 to $70,000 while those with between 10 to 20 years’ experience earn an average of $82,000 a year and those with over 20 years’ experience earn over $100,000.
