Introduction
The article evaluates the impacts of community service and service-learning as a significant strategy to improve the academic level of the students and the effects in the future. However, the author outlines that there is inequality in schools offering the services precisely for the disadvantaged students.
I agree with the author of the article that it is vital to engage the students in community service programs. Community service learning utilize the skills and knowledge learned in school through service learning placements in diverse organizations in the community (Whitton, 2011). Therefore, there is a need for the community organizations to have people who can assist in their programs. Additionally, community learning service will promote academic growth for the students (Whitton, 2011). Lastly, community learning services will motivate the students for future involvement and they will gain personal wealth and experience (Sharn and Diane, 2010).
Conclusion
In conclusion, the community plays a vital role in promoting education in the community. Community learning services are best to shape the student’s future in a positive way. In the modern society, schools should emphasize in community learning services, thus, preparing the students for future challenges and how to handle them.
