1. Hughes was taking part in religious revival and was waiting to be saved from sin. He was waiting for the light and for Jesus to come into his life. However, nothing happened, so the boy had to lie. Hughes was crying because of this lie and confusion. In my opinion, the boy was even more disappointed because of the fact that Jesus had not appeared to save him and after that event the little boy was not sure if God really exists. This life experience gave him more questions than answers.
2. During really short period of time the boy realized that his trust in things, that he was taught, his faith was shaken. If the story were longer, we might have lost the main point of the text that the writer was willing to show us. Moreover, the story is told on behalf of the little 13-year-old boy, and children usually do not pay attention to things that happen around them when they are actually worried about particular thing. If we had more descriptions of the background, we might have paid more attention to not so important things. As the story is short, we can look at the incident from the child’s point of view. And this fact makes the story so affective and quite powerful.
3. I remember the time, when I was 15-years-old child. I was quite clever and super active child. As my mother was one of the organizers of balls, she decided that I should take part in one of those gorgeous events. That occasion required a lot of preparations. First of all, I had no idea how to dance, how to move and how to behave there. And what is more I was afraid to be ashamed among hundreds of people. I attended special dance classes, but all my attempts were like a great failure. I didn’t have a talent for dancing. I was forced to hang up my ax. Unfortunately, it was negative experience in my life. My parents were disappointed and I also felt myself guilty for being so heavy-footed. But this fact gave me a lot of motivation. I trained a lot and three years later I executed the wish of my mum. I was moving like a duck to water. After the ball ended, my mum was feeling proud of his son. I was feeling proud of myself as well, as I made the dearest person in my life feel pleased and also got unforgettable experience.
