1. Explain the topics of time, space, material possession, friendship patterns and business agreements, in regard to companies doing business overseas?
Time
Just like, spoken language, time is also used as a language for communicating with each other. In different parts of the world, time is used for making communications. In different countries, there are various languages of time, just like various spoken languages. People of different countries have different meanings related to time taking for decisions or any other delay.
In US, delay in response means less priority by respondent. If any of the person in a business, gives late response to any other person, then other person thinks that he or she is not interested in finalizing that deal. In Ethiopia, there is negative relationship between time taken for decision and its importance. The more a person takes time for taking a decision; it means he has lesser importance for that. In Arab East, time taken for getting something done depends upon relationship with other person. Priority is given to closed relatives.
In US deadlines tells about intensity of urgency and importance of work. In Middle East, giving a deadline to a person means showing rude and demanding behavior. In US, people do not like to wait outside office for more than 30 minutes. People of Latin America do not feel insult in waiting outside the office. Japanese can easily bear long delays. They don’t bother even if someone delays a decision for a year, because they think that other person might be doing it very carefully. Time communicates just like words and there is different vocabulary of time in different countries around the world
Space
Different nations have different languages of space. There is positive relationship between importance of a person and space of his office in America. If a person has bigger office then it means he has more importance in the office. Like President of a company has the biggest office in building and vice president has lesser than that. In France, the space and layout of offices is such that the supervisor or top manager can easily communicate with other employees. So he is found in the middle of his employees. In Arab, a poor index of significance of a person is constituted by location or size of office. In Japanese culture, top floor is not for chief executive. It is considered to be a bargain roof.
In Middle East and Latin America, people get closer to a businessman. He likes overcrowding in space. In Scandinavia and Germany, business man usually spends time at home. He keeps certain distance from others.
In US, meetings can be held at any place like across the desk, on coffee table or at home. In India, discussing business at home is considered as inappropriate
Material Possession
Americans are not allowed to become materialistic. Different things like clothes to houses are considered as a difficult source of ascertaining someone’s status. Japanese do not bother for expensive things but for amazing and tasteful things. Middle East businessmen do not believe on extra-ordinary things to show their status.
Friendship Pattern
In different countries, the pattern and importance of friendship is different. An American makes that one his or her friend with whom he or she works. An American makes and ends relationships quickly. In Middle East, friends are not made easily but once they made, they are for long time. In US, friends even work for each other in exchange for a favor. In India, friends do a lot of effort to help each other
Business Agreements
For doing business in other countries, businessman must have some know-how about rules for negotiation of agreements in other countries. They give much importance to mention all the rules and regulations which must be followed during a contract. They perceive it compulsory to communicate all the rules clearly before making an agreement. Greeks do not give much importance to do proper written contract. In Arab World, a word by a man is just binding like written contract.

Now days, the trend of doing business in foreign countries has been increased by Americans. Businessmen from America prefer to do business in other countries in order to increase their market share and revenues. Americans are getting insights of other countries. They are trying to enter into international markets by understanding their terms and conditions, in order to expand their business.
