Summary of Chiragh Ali Polygamy
The paper describes the perceptions of a different society towards the Polygamy restricted by Muhammad in Arab. There were no rules before the social amendments made by Him. Polygamy was being practiced by the people at large and rights of women were violating.
• There were tribes that practiced to marry with their father’s widows. In short, there were no social and legal rights for women in the society.
• The girls that were married violating the decisions of their fathers no to marry were not entitled to receive any heritance from their father.
• There was no respect for women in the society.
• Girls were being murdered at the time of their birth.
• There was no punishment for men those violated the rights of women.
• Men had freedom to marry with orphan girls in their minority.
Muhammad has provided a right of equality with men according to the teachings of Quran. Legal and social rights were given to women. Laws of Islam supported the rights of women and taught to treat women as human, not as a substance. On comparison Christianity with the teaching of Muhammad, Islam has introduced a punishment for treating women as substance. The argument is made when Muhammad has introduced with the teaching of Quran that the substantial part of the body must be covered except hands and face. The argument is not valid because covered women have more respect in society and men could not influence towards other women because of their physical appearance. Widows are allowed to marry an other person except their brothers and sons. Muhammad has sanctioned polygamy that was practiced by Arab people at that time.
