The article cites that part of the reason for the Afghanistan invasion in 2001 was due to talks of liberation of the Afghanistan woman. Different parties have different standpoints concerning empowering women in Afghanistan. There are those who would like them to remain underpowered so that they remain unaware of what is happening and have to rely on men to interpret their rights and freedoms which are usually misinterpreted.

Ahmed Gosh looks at Afghanistan as a relevant case study to showcase the increasing demand for the rights of women in society especially in a setting of Islamic and tribal dynamics. Ahmed contends that democracy is the only avenue to ensure that the women in Afghanistan can truly enjoy their rights and be empowered. Women constitute more than half the total population, democracy can only therefore be experienced when these women are actively involved in political and social processes of the country. Political and social participation can also be looked at as a product of empowerment of women economically, socially and politically. This article, therefore, debates the different dynamics and agents at work in the question of women empowerment in Afghanistan.
